Boomer Randomness

Went to a Lady Antebellum concert, hosted a party for nine friends, had dinner and did a Fireball shot with the GF’s sons, had dinner with another couple at a local Italian restaurant, bought new running shoes, drank wine and engaged in a conversation about my hometown with the owner of my local hangout who just returned from a trip there, had fun with friends at my other hangout, bought a fedora, had pizza and beer with my GF’s brother and other relatives, listened to jazz and oldies while talking and laughing and planning a trip, went to a ‘house concert’ to see our favorite local singer/songwriter perform his original music in a setting well-suited to listening, saw Mamma Mia at National Theatre in DC, wore a green hat to another local joint and toasted St. Patrick with a couple of Jamesons on the rocks, learned how to play Greensleeves and a few new chords on my guitar, weighed in at my trainer’s and learned I was down 6 pounds since starting there, washed the winter grime off...

Do you ever stumble on an example of something you love, something you consider a passion, and realize you haven’t engaged in that activity in a long time? I took my first photograph before I was ten years old and I have owned cameras ever since.   At various times I have been paid for photos, which means that on some level I am a professional photographer.   I love shooting pictures and consider it a passion.   I have often considered attempting to make a living at photography but I know that I would not be as successful at that as I am at what I actually do for a living. While checking this blog for a moment this morning, I decided to check my photo blog too.   I stumbled on a hundred or more photos I posted and realized two things: I am a pretty good photographer and I have not posted a picture in two years.   As I contemplated that, I realized that I haven’t had my previous Nikon in my hands in months, other than to move it from one room...

I don’t seem to have time to do anything, yet I am very busy.   And while some of my activity lately has been work-related and chore-related, much has been fun.   I need to get focused.   Meanwhile, here are a few random observations I’ve been collecting. The 50 th anniversary of the Beatles first concert in the US was this month.   Fifty years?   Really?   Can it be that long ago that they first played live in this country?   The first show was right here in Washington DC at a venue that still exists, although it is some kind of decrepit warehouse now.   There is a movement locally to rehab it. Valentine’s weekend was my best ever.   No details here, just take my word for it … best ever. The kitchen at my office is shameful.   The refrigerator is so full that it seems like a family is living in the office.   It’s full of big stuff too, like a large container of orange juice, a carton of eggs (why? there is no st...
